On September 4, 2019 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, took part in the closing session of the International High-level Conference on Countering Terrorism through Innovative Approaches and the Use of New and Emerging Technologies” (September 3-4, 2019, Minsk).
The closing session was also addressed by the UN Under-Secretary General, Vladimir Voronkov, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, representative of the Slovak Chairmanship of the OSCE, Lukas Parisek.
Summing up the event, the Deputy Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry noted the substantive and professional nature of the discussions held on topical issues of countering terrorism in new technological realities. A.Dapkiunas emphasized the unique scope of the conference participants, which allowed both the OSCE and ASEAN participating states to come together for the first time in this format. The Belarusian diplomat emphasized once again the need for close coordination of efforts of all countries, international and regional organizations, analytical circles, civil society and private sector under the auspices of the UN in order to form a united anti-terrorist front.
During the press briefing, Andrei Dapkiunas drew attention to the initiative of the President of the Republic of Belarus to form a “Digital Neighborhood Belt” and to launch a “«Digital Security Wave»” from Minsk to strengthen ties between countries and to increase the effectiveness of joint counteraction against terrorist threats in cyberspace.
