Statement by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus with regard to the adoption of the resolution on Belarus by the UN Commission on Human Rights at its 59th session
With regard to the adoption of the resolution on Belarus by the UN Commission on Human Rights at its 59th session the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus considers it necessary to make the following statement.
The resolution that has been submitted by the United States is completely politically motivated and demonstrates the application of the policy of double-standards towards Belarus. The resolution is aimed not only against Belarus: it is in deed a means of intimidation of all peaceful nations that have courage to express their position on the most important issues of world agenda independently from the USA. Rule of force which is incompatible with the principles of the UN Charter has led to the abuse of international human rights mechanisms. The fact that the resolution was imposed on the Commission is an evidence of unacceptable politicization of this international body. This fact undermines the authority and credibility of the Commission, compromises the cause of the human rights protection worldwide. It is not accidental that the majority of the Commission Member States did not support the resolution.
The Republic of Belarus totally rejects all the allegations contained in the resolution, and cannot accept it neither in letter nor in spirit.
The Republic of Belarus has always demonstrated in deed its commitment to human rights protection and is ready for further constructive cooperation with the UN bodies on the whole range of human rights issues on the basis of the principles of universality, non-selectivity and objectivity.
