Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus M.Ryzhenkov participates in the event on the occasion of International Delegate's Day

25 April 2025

On April 25, 2025 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belrus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, took part in the opening ceremony of the 25th UN Model, which is held annually at the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University and dedicated to the International Delegate’s Day.

Reference: International Delegate's Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2019 at the initiative of Belarus and is celebrated annually on April 25, the first day of the International Conference in San Francisco in 1945, which resulted in the creation of the United Nations.

Addressing the participants of the event, the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry emphasized the important role and significant contribution of Belarusian delegates to the creation of the UN, who took an active part in the International Conference in San Francisco in 1945 and signed the UN Charter, securing our country’s status of a founding member of the Organization.

The Minister emphasized that the UN Charter became a reality thanks to the professionalism, endurance and skill of specific people – the delegates who 80 years ago were given the honour and responsibility to create a fundamentally new Organization.

M.Ryzhenkov noted that in the context of the inability of some states to negotiate and reach agreements on critical issues of the international agenda, the importance of developing high-quality human potential is especially growing. In this regard, the Minister called on student participants of the UN Model to develop their negotiation skills and not remain indifferent to the work they do.

The participants of the UN Model were also addressed by the Rector of BSU, Andrei Karol, the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus, Rasul Bagirov, and Mikhail Khvostov, who headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus from 2000 to 2003.

The event was attended by members of the Association of Veterans of the Belarusian Diplomatic Service, many of whom have dedicated their professional careers to multilateral diplomacy.

The celebration of the International Delegate's Day was one of a series of joint events envisaged by the Plan for the Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the UN in Belarus, which was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus on 28 February 2025.
